ptfsetup Command
Purpose
Create files required by subptf and cumptf for Developer and
Area builds.
Syntax
ptfsetup [ -a ] [ -c BLDCYCLE ] [ -h HISTORYDIR ] [ -l "LPP ..." ]
[ -r RELEASE ] [ -n ] [ -u UPDATEDIR ] [ [ -b | -f ] name(s) ... ]
Description
In the file names below a $ indicates the value is taken from
either the command line arguments or from the environment variables
of the same names.
The ptfsetup command is used to create files required by subptf
and cumptf for Developer and Area builds. These files include:
$TOP/PTF/$BLDCYCLE/$CMVC_RELEASE/changeview
$TOP/PTF/$BLDCYCLE/$CMVC_RELEASE/defects
Unless the append flag (see -a option below) is specified, the files
will be removed if they exist before ptfsetup begins adding data to them.
Also, a third file:
$TOP/PTF/$BLDCYCLE/abstractlist
is appended to by ptfsetup. Data is always appended to this file regardless
of whether the -a command line argument was used.
The ptfsetup command also copies lpp information from $UPDATEDIR into
$TOP/UPDATE. The abstracts, memo_info, pkgptf.name, and ptfoptions files
from $HISTORYDIR are copied into $TOP/HISTORY.
Flags
-a Append flag. Files are appended to rather than recreated.
-b name CMVC level name(s).
-c BLDCYCLE Build cycle.
-f name File(s) containing list of defects, one defect per line.
-h HISTORYDIR Directory from which to copy the history data files
abstracts, memo_info, pkgptf.name, and ptfoptions.
Default is /afs/austin/aix/BLDENV_DEFINE_AFSSUBDIR/HISTORY.
-l "LPP ..." List of LPPs whose update information is to be copied. All
LPP update information is copied by default. Quotes around
the LPP list are required.
-n Do not copy any LPP update information to local $TOP/UPDATE
directory and do not copy any history data files to local
$TOP/HISTORY.
-r RELEASE CMVC release to use.
-u UPDATEDIR Directory from which to copy LPP update information.
Default is /afs/austin/aix/BLDENV_DEFINE_AFSSUBDIR/UPDATE.
If the -b, or -f flags are not present, but the name(s) argument appears
on the command line, the -b flag is assumed.
A fatal error occurs if more than one of the -b or -f flags are
supplied at the same time.
Environment Variables
AFSBASE Base of the AFS tree. Value is /afs/austin/aix.
BLDCYCLE Current "cycle" of builds. Typically in the form 'yyww'
where yy = year and ww = week. BLDCYCLE must be
set. Resolution of BLDCYCLE: 1) use value supplied with -c,
2) use value of environment variable BLDCYCLE, or 3) prompt
for BLDCYCLE value.
BLDENV Full pathname to the top of the build environment.
Typical value is /bldenv/3.2/prod.
NOTE: This variable MUST be set prior to the execution of
ptfsetup. Setting PATH to include $BLDENV/usr/bin
is recommended.
CMVC_RELEASE CMVC release being built. CMVC_RELEASE must be set.
Resolution of CMVC_RELEASE: 1) use value supplied with -r,
2) use value of environment variable CMVC_RELEASE, or 3)
prompt for CMVC_RELEASE value.
LEVELNAME Name of the current level. Default computed from BLDCYCLE
and the last three digits of CMVC_RELEASE, which are of the
form 'vrl', where v = version, r = release, and l = level. The
base LEVELNAME then is 'yywwvrl'. A single letter, lower-case
alpha character is normally appended to the base to
differentiate between builds within the same build cycle (e.g.
9214320d). If the -f flag is not supplied, the value for
LEVELNAME must be set. Resolution of LEVELNAME: 1) use name(s)
supplied on command line, 2) use name(s) supplied with -b, 3)
use value of environment variable LEVELNAME, or 4) prompt for
LEVELNAME value. (NOTE: if prompted, only one build name may
be entered).
TOP Full pathname to the top of the source tree from which the
build is initiated. The user will be prompted for this value
if it is not set at command invocation.

$TOP/LOG/$BLDCYCLE/ptfsetup.<n>
Log of invocations of ptfsetup for build cycle $BLDCYCLE. File
index <n> is incremented by 1 each time ptfsetup is run.
Warnings
"Levelname <lvlname> for <release> has no associated defects."
No defects were found in CMVC query, insure levelname(s) used are
correct for <release>.
"Levelname <lvlname> does not exist for <release>."
CMVC query does not have a levelname <lvlname> for <release>, cause will
usually be a misspelling of <lvlname> or <release>.
"File <file> does not exist."
FILE supplied with -f does not exist. Cause will usually be incorrect
path or spelling error.
Examples
1. Use the value bos320 for <release> and 9140 for <bldcycle>. Query
CMVC for all defects associated with the 9140320 level.
ptfsetup -r bos320 -c 9140 -b 9140320
or
ptfsetup -r bos320 -c 9140 9140320
2. Use the values of $CMVC_RELEASE and $BLDCYCLE from the environment.
List of defects comes from the files /tmp/defect_list and
/tmp/defect_list2.
ptfsetup -f /tmp/defect_list /tmp/defect_list2
3. Use the values of $CMVC_RELEASE, $BLDCYCLE, and $LEVELNAME from the
environment.
