4045XLPSTREAM TEST PROCEDURE
Filed as {ERIS}<TEST>I/O>HARDCOPY>HAND>4045XLPSTREAM.PROC
This procedure describes a test with all three available communications packages (RS232C, TTY and CENTRONICS), but it explains how to adapt the test for a smaller set. To test the first two, you need a 4045 with a serial port installed; to test the third, you need a 4045 with the parallel port installed. Each of the three ports requires its own cable wired as shown under "Cabling" in the Lisp Library Modules writeup on 4045XLPSTREAM.
Follow this procedure from an 1108 or 1109 and from an 1186 with hardware and software installed as specified in Section 5 of {ERINYES}<TEST>LISP>LYRIC>PLANS>4045XLPSTREAM.PLAN. Only an 1109 can run the 4045 with CENTRONICS.
The success criterion is that all files should print and the each printed copy should look like the same file viewed on the screen with FileBrowser's Edit option.
A. Preparation
1. Open a Common Lisp Exec window and enter
(CL:IN-PACKAGE 'XCL-USER)
Enter all subsequent commands from this window and this package.
2. Verify that {ERINYES}<releasename>LIBRARY> is at the head of the list IL:DIRECTORIES. If not, use CONS or DV to put it there.
3. Use the FileBrowser or IL:LOAD to load {ERINYES}<releasename>LIBRARY>4045XLPSTREAM.LCOM. A prompt will appear asking which port you plan to use.
- If testing with all three, with both serial ports (RS232 and TTY) or with RS232 only, enter R.
- If testing with TTY only, enter T.
- If testing with CENTRONICS only, enter C.
3. Enter
(IL:LOAD "{ERIS}<TEST>I/O>HARDCOPY>HAND>STREAMTESTS.DFASL")
IL:CONN "{ERIS}<TEST>I/O>HARDCOPY>HAND>TESTFILES>"
4. Set the printer 4045's configuration cartridge as shown under "Configuration of the 4045" in Lisp Library Modules.
5. Enter
(DEFPRINT 4045)
to ensure that FASTFX80 is at the head of IL:DEFAULTPRINTINGHOST. The function will return the new list.
B. 4045 Test Through the RS232 Port
1. Connect the workstation to the 4045 through the RS232 port with a cable wired as shown in Lisp Library Modules.
2. Enter
(IL:RS232C.INIT 9600 8 'IL:NONE 1 'IL:XONXOFF)
to set the baud rate, bits/char, parity and flow control.
3. Enter
(SENDFILES)
to send the files in the connected directory to the printer.
4. (Optional stress test) Enter
(STRESSTEST)
to send the file {ERIS}<TEST>I/O>HARDCOPY>HAND>STRESSTEST>STRESSTEST.TEDIT to the printer.
C. 4045 Test Through the TTY Port
1. Connect the workstation to the 4045 through the TTY port with a cable wired as shown in Lisp Library Modules.
2. Enter
(4045SET TTY)
to call the function IL:4045XLP.SET.PARAMETERS for the TTY port.
3. Enter
(IL:TTY.INIT 9600 8 'IL:NONE 1 'IL:XONXOFF)
to set the baud rate, bits/char, parity and flow control.
4. If this is the first test run, load 4045XLPSTREAM.LCOM as explained in step A.3, replying to the prompt with T.
5. Perform steps B. 3 and B. 4.
D. 4045 Test Through the CENTRONICS Port
1. Connect the workstation to the 4045 through the CENTRONICS port with a cable wired as shown in Lisp Library Modules.
2. If this is the first test run, load 4045XLPSTREAM.LCOM as explained in step A.3, replying to the prompt with C.
2. With the 4045 powered on, enter
(CENTRONICS.RESET)
(4045SET 'IL:CENTRONICS)
3. Perform steps B. 3 and B. 4.
NOTE: This procedure leaves the 4045 as the default printer. Use IL:DV, POP or SETQ to restore IL:DEFAULTPRINTINGHOST to its original state.
