GUIDELINES FOR USING KERMIT ON THE ATARI ST -------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Note: the following bug might have resulted from not saying "SET FILE BYTESIZE 8" in 20Kermit, before entering the server -- dbb] ST Kermit has a bug that has sometimes prevents binary files on the DEC20 from transferring correctly. It has occurred with two games so far, Zork II and Sorcerer. To avoid the bug, transfer the file in two steps, first to a PC or Compaq running Kermit, then to the ST. The bug symptoms are that the file on the ST ends up about 80 bytes longer than the original file on the DEC20. Also the game crashes when loaded, or doesn't $VERIFY correctly if it does load. ST KERMIT COMMANDS -------------------------------------------------------------------------- kermit c connect [lbiphe] line/baud/image/par/ecs-char g get f finish (shut down server) r receive s send v server (enter server mode) x exit TO COMMUNICATE WITH DEC20, USING SERVER: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- (on DEC20, terminal speed should be 9600) [] kermit c (on DEC20, @20kermit , then 20>server ) [] kermit s filename.txt (send ascii file) or kermit g filename.txt (get ascii file) or kermit gi filename.dat (get binary file) or kermit gi "*.whatever" (wildcard, needs quotes) [] kermit f (close down the server) If you run kermit with no argument, you get a screen of instructions. It says, among other things, that send (s) can handle multiple files, by using a wildcard but not the double quotes. I haven't gotten this to work. kermit s a:*.txt (send ascii files) TO COMMUNICATE WITH A COMPAQ: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9600 baud at Compaq. Connect on both sides to check if OK. Getting a response at one end (the Compaq) but not at the other means you aren't using the right cables. on ST: kermit r on Compaq: send filename
