Mark Pizzolato b3603a095c TIMER: Refinements and coschedule fixups 
- Enable startup debugging.
- Assure that abort conditions report sufficient info and cleanly
  shutdown any debugging that is enabled.
- Display negative values usefully when aborts happen.
